STORY: VIPs from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund joined Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda in breaking giant sake barrels at a reception ceremony for the IMF World Bank semi-annual meeting held in Tokyo on Friday.

The meeting, attended by finance officials such as IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, comes amidst a widening divide in opinion between the IMF and Germany on how to handle the euro zone crisis.

Greece, Spain and the euro zone's slow progress toward debt reform was center stage at IMF meetings despite Europe's best effort to step out of the spotlight.
