The game between Sri Lanka and Pakistan was a repeat of the 2009 final but this time Sri Lanka, in front of their home crowd, beat Pakistan by 16 runs to book their place in Sunday's final and guarantee that there will be a new name on the trophy.

An excellent team performance saw batsmen Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara play starring roles before Angelo Mathews, Rangana Herath and Ajantha Mendis teamed up to limit Pakistan to just 123 for seven in reply.

Pakistan have reached the semi-finals of all four tournaments but like in 2010, they could go no further. Sri Lanka reached the final of the 2007 and 2011 50-over World Cups as well as the 2009 ICC WT20 and will be hoping they can make it fourth time lucky.
