Overall political, social and economic condition of the country came under discussion in the meeting with the Co-ordination Committee

Karachi: 30th September 2012

A delegation of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) visited the Nine Zero on Sunday and held meeting with the MQM’s Co-ordination Committee. The PML (Q) delegation was led by its president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. Deputy Convener of the Co-ordination Committee Mrs Nasrin Jalil led the MQM’s side.

The overall political, social, and economic condition of the country came under discussion during the meeting. Views were also exchanged on the brewing crisis in Balochistan, the law and order situation prevailing in the country and strategies for the upcoming general elections.

Talking to the media Mrs Jalil said that there has always been a link of mutual co-operation between MQM leader Mr Altaf Hussain and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. She added that Chaudhry Shujaat was not a new face for the MQM. She said that the relations between the PML (Q) and the MQM would continue in future as well. She said that there was consensus between the two parties on several issues.

Chaudhry Shujaat said that the Balochistan issue could not be resolved by a single party. He said that he had formed a committee for resolving the Balochistan issue when he was the prime minister. The committee had representation from all stakeholders and political parties. The committee has submitted a detailed report on the issue but it could not be implemented. He said that the situation in Balochistan could improve even today if the recommendations of the report were implemented.

Chaudhry Shujaat thanked Mr Altaf Hussain for a warm welcome at Nine Zero.

Speaking on the occasion Secretary General of the PML (Q) Mr Mushahid Hussain said that his party had particular relations with the MQM. He supported the stance of Mr Altaf Hussain on the issue of religious extremism and terrorism.

Mr Mushahid Hussain said that the elections were near. The MQM and the PML (Q) had been allied with each other in the past and they would continue to work together in the political arena.

In response to a question Mr Mushahid Hussain said that the parliamentary party of the PML (Q) would deliberate upon the local government system and arrive at a decision.
