STORY: Scores of lawyers in Islamabad, protesting against an anti-Islam film produced in the United States, broke through the first gate of the Diplomatic Enclave that houses the U.S. Embassy and other foreign missions on Wednesday.

A heavy deployment of police at the gate held off the protesters and stopped them from moving closer to the U.S. Embassy, which is surrounded by another set of high walls and protected by private security guards.

The short movie produced in California and posted online has sparked days of violent protests. American and European embassies and businesses have been attacked in at least 20 countries.

In Pakistan, the lawyers demonstration follows three days of violent protests in which two protesters have been killed.

A statement issued by the U.S. embassy in Islamabad on Tuesday said that its consulates and diplomatic missions across Pakistan had been closed to the public amid security concerns.
