Google is Putting Mexico on the Map

Internet users will now be able to explore more than 30 Mexican archaeological sites online after Google and Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) launched Google Maps with Street View images of the sites on Thursday. Google first sent cameras installed on bicycles to photograph archaeological sites such as Teotihuacan, Xochicalco, Monte Alban, Chichen Itza, Tulum, El Tajin, Palenque and Bonampak.
INAH Director Alfonso de Maria y Campos said it was a careful collaboration. Marketing Director for Google Mexico, Miguel Alba, said the project was unique. Google started collecting the photographs in 2010 and, after two years, images of 68 sites in 17 Mexican states have been collected. Thirty of those places have been incorporated into the Google Street View platform. A total of 90 sites will be incorporated into Street View in the future.
