Typhoon Sanba slams Okinawa

Typhoon Sanba slams Japan's southern Okinawa islands on Sunday.

The storm has closed roads and brought ferry service to a halt.

And with maximum wind speeds near the eye of the typhoon as high as 100 miles-per-hour, state broadcaster NHK said about 300 flights had been cancelled.

It added that about 460 people were voluntarily evacuated to public schools, and many tens of thousands of homes are without power.

South Korea and parts of southern China were also bracing for the storm's impact.
