Obama's campaign hopes for a Clinton bump

The re-election campaign of President Barack Obama seems to have decided that its best weapon is the last Democrat to hold Obama's job: Bill Clinton. The saxophone-playing, smooth-talking two-time president is enjoying a 69 per cent approval rating - higher than Obama's is now and his own was in the 1990s. He also appeals to white, working-class men, a tough segment for Obama. Clinton may have criticised Obama in 2008 when his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was in the presidential race, but Obama's campaign put Clinton back on centre stage on Wednesday night, hoping for the best.
