A K Hangal

As veteran actor A.K. Hangal passed away in Mumbai early on Sunday morning, the film industry mourned on social networking site, Twitter. However, the number of mourners at the Pawan Hans Crematorium where Hangal's son, Vijay, performed the last rites for the "common man" of Hindi cinema, were few. The film industry, by and large, gave Hangal's funeral a miss. Close friends and family bid a tearful goodbye to Hangal in Mumbai, where he passed away early on Sunday morning at the age of 98, after suffering from prolonged illness. Hangal, who was admitted to the Asha Parekh hospital in Mumbai had stopped responding to treatment in the last few days, after suffering a hip fracture.
