STORY: Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, fresh from his party's convention in Tampa, Florida, visited Louisiana on Friday (August 31) to view storm damage from Hurricane Isaac.

Romney and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal met residents of Lafitte, which was flooded as Isaac swept through the area.

Isaac left some homes in Louisiana under 12 feet (3.6 meters) of water. More than 500,000 homes and businesses across Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas were still without electricity on Friday morning.

The first hurricane to hit the United States this year will be remembered for striking New Orleans on the anniversary of 2005's deadly Hurricane Katrina - and providing a first, successful test of the city's new 14.5 billion U.S. dollar flood controls imposed after Katrina.
