Leaders discuss 'new Silk Road'

Iran and Tajikistan have agreed to speed up construction of a rail line through Afghanistan, to improve regional energy and water supplies.

The Tajik president's office announced the deal after talks in the capital Dushanbe.

The announcement, made during the Persian new year, Nowroz - a holiday celebrated by all three nations - is an attempt to create a "new Silk Road" through the three nations that share so much in common.

Al Jazeera's Robin Forestier Walker reports from Dushanbe.
