Russia votes in presidential election

Vladimir Putin, the Russian prime minister, has cast his vote in an election that he is widely expected to win.

Putin was first elected Russia's president from 2000 to 2008, but was barred by the constitution from standing for a third consecutive term. He has spent the last four years as prime minister, under President Dmitri Medvedev, but is now expected to return to the top job.

This election is being held against a backdrop of many anti-Putin protests, sparked by allegations of widespread fraud during December's parliamentary elections.
