Typhoon makes landfall in North Korea

Typhoon Bolaven made landfall in North Korea late Tuesday (August 28), hitting already damaged farmlands.
North Korean state-television KRT showed uprooted trees and damaged buildings in several cities, but the country's official media hasn't released details about the damage caused by the typhoon.
China's Meteorological Administration issued warnings of possible flooding in the coming days that could affect corn and soy crops in parts of its three north-eastern provinces that produce about 30 percent of corn output and 40 percent of soy.
The destitute North has said heavy rains in July and August inundated farmlands and triggered landslides, killing hundreds and leaving families homeless.
The U.N. World Food Programme and an alliance of South Korean aid groups have offered to provide food aid to help feed the 24-million population.
