Hundreds showed up, some bearing the red Kimjoinglia begonias, named after their former leader.

In the months since Kim Jong-il died, portraits and sculptures praising him as a wise and brave leader have sprung up across the country.

This week there has been no shortage of tributes, and Kim Jong-il's birthday has been officially designated as Day of the Shining Star.

He was also post-humously elevated to the honourary post of Generalissimo, only the second person in the conutry to be given that title.

Al Jazeera's Florence Looi reports.
