Japanese artist wins new audiences

Yayoi Kusama is one of Japan's best-known artists and is described many as hard working and innovative.

A significant figure in America's avant-garde art movement in the 1960s, she has spent the last 35 years in a psychiatric hospital in Japan, where she has continued to work.

Kusama describes her art as a therapeutic necessity, something she has to pursue to correct a mental disability she says began in her childhood.

Now 82, Kusama came to London for the opening of a major new exhibition for her work.

Al Jazeera's Jessica Baldwin reports from London's Tate Modern Gallery.
