Myanmar's Suu Kyi takes oath of office

Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's opposition leader, has been sworn in as a member of parliament after nearly two decades of struggle against the powerful military.

The Nobel laureate took the oath of office in the capital, Naypyidaw, along with newly elected members from her National League for Democracy party.

NLD swept by-elections on April 1, but its successful candidates initially refused to take their seats over wording in the parliamentary oath.

However, the party backed down on the issue saying they wanted to achieve their goal in a flexible manner.
