Tensions rise in Turkey over arrests

Turkey's former military chief, Ilker Basbug, has been arrested for allegedly plotting to overthrow the government.

He is one of hundreds of suspects in an investigation into the Ergenekon network, a group accused of being an underground terrorist organisation plotting a coup with the aim of giving power to the army.

Basbug is the highest ranking official to have been apprehended for his alleged involvement. And his arrest has cemented an already bitter struggle between the country's government and its military.

Al Jazeera's Sonia Gallego reports.
