Director Tony Scott jumps to death

The Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles, hours after witnesses saw Director Tony Scott park his car and apparently leap off it.

The case is being treated as suicide.

Scott was a titan of Hollywood - with blockbusters such as "Top Gun", "Crimson Tide" and "Enemy of the State" among his credits.

His death has created shock amongst peers - local media reported a suicide note was found in his office, but its contents have not yet been revealed.

Scott shot to fame in the 1980s when he directed Tom Cruise in the fighter jet adventure "Top Gun".

He also helmed the submarine blockbuster "Crimson Tide" with Denzel Washington and the espionage thriller "Enemy of the State", starring Will Smith.

He is the brother of fellow director Ridley Scott and had reportedly been working on a new film about a British aid worker in Sudan.
