Typhoon Kai-Tak swept across Northern provinces of Vietnam over the weekend, leaving at least 27 people dead and thousands of houses damaged.

Five people were swept away by floodwaters and one woman died in a flood-triggered landslide when she was sleeping in her house in Bac Giang province.

In the capital, Hanoi, a taxi driver was killed when a tree fell on his car.

Two people were electrocuted by a falling electricity cable.

Official said nearly 12,000 houses were damaged and 56,800 acres (23,000 hectares) of cropland were flooded.

Kai-Tak is the fifth tropical storm and typhoon to hit Vietnam this year.
