Shoppers bargain over train tracks at Thai market

Shades at a market in Bangkok are pulled back to make way for a regular visitor.

In the packed market, vendors have spilled onto the tracks, meaning they have to make way for eight trains a day.

When the warning signs go off, the market has three minutes to clear the way.

As the train rumbles past, the covers return and it's business as usual.

For locals the event is nothing new, as the market began using the tracks more than 25 years ago.

But it's become popular with tourists, attracting some 500 visitors a day.

It's not just in the market that curious travellers want to witness the event.

Some squeeze into the front of the train to capture the market while on the move.

Officials say since the railway market began, it has seen no major accidents.
