Chemotherapy And Cancer Growth

Leading prostate cancer expert. Dr. David Samadi, explains the results of a new study that suggests chemotherapy could actually worsen some cancers. Researchers and oncologists are constantly challenged to understand why chemotherapy works in a lab setting, but doesn’t always work in practice. Dr. Samadi explains that systemic chemo, given to the entire body, causes healthy cells to release certain proteins that can actually boost the growth of certain cancer cells. Research like this will help experts learn more about how to block these proteins and make chemotherapy even more effective. In the future, chemotherapy could become more customized to the type of cancer and personalized the individual patient, particular for long-term treatment. Dr. Samadi is not advising patients to stop chemotherapy as a result of this study.
