Marilyn remembered; "Total Recall" forgotten

Hollywood remembering icon Marilyn Monroe on the 50th anniversary of her death on Sunday (August 05) with several ceremonies and events taking place in honor of the enduring star.

The 36-year-old actress died from an apparent drug overdose at her Brentwood home on August 05, 1962.

Monroe would have turned 86 years old on June 1.

The years haven't been kind to Douglas Hauser, the secret agent character played by both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Colin Farrell in versions of the futuristic action film "Total Recall" released 22 years apart.

The release of the modern-day version of the film this weekend scarcely outsold the 1990 version that featured Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone.

The rebooted version, which stars Farrell as a dispirited worker who has lost his memory of being a secret agent, generated 26 million dollars at (USD) at the U.S. and Canadian box offices, according to Hollywod.com's box office division.

That was not good enough to displace the "The Dark Knight Rises, the Batman film that grossed 36.4 million in its third weekend to lead the weekend's box office race.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Entertainment said "Total Recall," which also stars Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale, is tracking well, with strong openings in western Europe, Latin America and Asia markets.

Best wishes are in order for Natalie Portman, the 31-year-old Oscar winner married her "Black Swan" choreographer Benjamin Millepied on Saturday (August 04), according to People magazine.

The couple have a 14-month old son.
