Dan Cathy said he supported "the biblical definition of a family". He also called backers of gay marriage "arrogant".

"He's promoting hatred. He's promoting that people still have to be in the closet and not live the life that they were born to live. He promotes suicide, promotes bullying, promotes all of the bad stuff. I'm okay with someone exercising their First Amendment right, but not if it's hatred against someone else."

"It's horrible. It's odious and it's filled with nothing but hate and anger and intolerance for something that really doesn't affect their lives."
The "kiss-in" came after Cathy's supporters swamped the fast-food chain in his defence.
Some Chick-fil-A supporters continued to hold their own protests during the "kiss-in".

"His message came from a Christian heart and a belief that he believes in the lord. He stood up for it and I respect him a lot. I'm supporting him here today because of that, but I'm mainly here for God to stand up for him. There's no hate involved. The sign speaks for itself."
Organisers of Same Sex Kiss Day expected more than 15,000 people to take part across the United States.
