Belgium court to release wife of child murderer

Michelle Martin, the former wife and accomplice of convicted child murderer Marc Dutroux.

She's set to be released from prison within two weeks after a Belgian court agreed to keep her under house arrest in a convent just southeast of Brussels.

Martin was sentenced to 30 years in jail in 1996 for her part in helping Dutroux kidnap six girls, four of whom were killed or died of neglect.

Dutroux's crimes shocked Belgium and highlighted deep problems within the police department, sparking mass demonstrations in Brussels.

One of the conditions of Martin's early release is that she needs to have a reintegration plan, including a place where she can live and work.

Another condition is that she needs to show regret.

Her lawyer said his client was full of remorse.

Dutroux, who was sentenced to life in prison in 2004, remains incarcerated and is not expected to ever be granted parole.
