Without the grace of Lakshmi, out toil is of no avail. Varalakshmi is one who grants boons. Performing the Varalakshmi Pooja is said to be equivalent to worshipping all forms of Lakshmi. "The benefits of performing the Varalakshmi Pooja are "dhanam" (money), "dhanyam" (grains of food), "arogayam" (Health), "sampath" (property). "Sat santhanam" (vitruous offspring) and "dheerga saumangalyam" (longevity of the husband). Hence a unique and austere worship to her is done as a Varalakshmi Vratham.
