Captured Israeli soldier returns home

Five years after he was captured by Palestinian fighters, the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit is now back with his family, having been released in exchange for more than a thousand Palestinian prisoners.

Of those Palestinians, 40 were deported to Qatar, Syria, Turkey and Jordan late on Tuesday, after having been deemed too dangerous to be allowed to remain in Palestine by the Israeli authorities.

Looking thin and overwhelmed, Shalit, meanwhile, was reunited with his parents at the Tel Nof airbase in central Israel.

Al Jazeera's Cal Perry reports from Jerusalem.
