Witness and police speak about Batman movie shootings
A masked gunman killed 12 people and wounded 50 others when he opened fire at a showing of the new Batman film in a suburb of the U.S. city of Denver early on Friday.
Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates described what happened.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) DAN OATES, AURORA POLICE CHIEF SAYING:
''Whiteness tell us that he released some sort of canister, they heard a hissing sound and that gas emerged and then we know the gunman opened fire. Now I'm saying the gunman because as of right now, we only know of one gunman.''
One witness says he saw bloodied victims leaving the theatre, some on foot others on stretchers.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) ALEX MILANO, WITNESS, SAYING:
"A cop came walking through the front door before everyone was cleared up and everything was completely under control. The cop came walking through the door with a little girl in his arms and she wasn't moving.''
Police say they arrested a male suspect in the theatre parking lot.
Later a bomb disposal robot could be seen investigating a car parked behind the mall after the suspect told police explosives were in his parked car.
It's unclear whether the car belonged to the suspect.
