Castro arrives in Beijing
Cuban President Raul Castro arrived in Beijing on Wednesday (July 4), kicking off a four-day state visit that is aimed at boosting a bilateral relationship with the world's second largest economy.
Castro is scheduled to meet with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao on Thursday (July 5) and the two leaders will oversee signing of cooperation deals, China's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday (July 3).
Chinese government showed that, bilateral trade rose from 590 million U.S. dollars in 2004 to 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2010.
Castro is expected to travel to Hanoi, Vietnam after his Beijing trip.
It will be his first visit to Cuba's two important Communist allies in the region since taking over power in 2008 from his ailing brother, former President and revolutionary icon Fidel Castro, who is now 85.
