TV9 - Lokayukta raids five officials In Bangalore & Kolar....!

The Lokayukta police on Friday raided the houses, offices and property belonging to senior IAS officer Syed Zameer Pasha and four other government officials in Bangalore, and Ramanagaram and Kolar districts.

During the simultaneous raids conducted on nearly 20 premises, the Lokayukta police seized gold, diamond and silver ornaments in addition to documents pertaining to landed property worth several crores of rupees owned by these officials, who have allegedly amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income, Additional Director-General of Police (Lokayukta) H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao told presspersons here.

The Lokayukta police found that G. Nagaraj, Accounts Controller, BESCOM, Kolar, owned 25 residential sites and a house, all valued at over Rs. 1 crore. The team seized gold ornaments worth Rs. 21.75 lakh and 1.19 kg silver from his house in Kolar.

Mr. Rao said that 3,057 U.S. dollars, 24,000 Sri Lankan rupees and 500 Singapore dollars were seized from the residence of N. Lakshman Rao Peshwe, Managing Director, Karnataka Neeravari Nigama Ltd. Raids were conducted on the property of two other officials, Mrutyunjaya B. Burji, Additional Secretary and Director of Projects, Public Works Department, and Kenche Gowda, Inspector, Yelahanka police station.

According to the seized documents, Mr. Pasha, Principal Secretary, Department of Minorities Development, owned landed property worth Rs. 2.90 crore, which included three flats in Koramangala, Tilak Nagar and Kadugodi and a site in HSR Layout in Bangalore and 25 acres of agricultural land in Magadi taluk of Ramanagaram district.

The raid team seized two cars worth Rs. 23 lakh and a motorcycle valued at Rs. 1.25 lakh and gold ornaments worth Rs. 22 lakh from Mr. Pasha’s house in Richmond Town. The police were yet to examine seven bank accounts and a locker held by the senior bureaucrat. It was found that he was running three schools and a pharmacy college in Ramanagaram district.

Similarly, Mr. Peshwe, who joined service in 1992, owns three flats, two houses and five residential plots, all worth Rs. 2.83 crore, in Jayanagar and Banaswadi.

The police seized 4 kg silver articles, 363 gram gold, a diamond worth Rs. 4 lakh and Rs. 4.78 lakh in cash from his house. He had Rs. 92.76 lakh in two fixed deposit accounts and Rs. 32.58 lakh in three savings accounts. Mr. Burji, who joined service in 1983, owned a residential plot valued at Rs. 65 lakh in Nagarabavi; a site in Chandra Layout; a farmhouse near Kengeri and land on Hubli-Dharwad Main Road. Two cars worth Rs. 11 lakh were seized from his house, Mr. Rao said.

The official said that Mr. Kenche Gowda, who joined the Police Department in 1994, owned a three-floor house and a residential site in HMT Layout, a commercial complex in Kamakshipalya and four acres of agricultural land in Tumkur district, all worth Rs. 1.18 crore.

The raid team seized Rs. 1.20 lakh in cash, 1.40 kg gold, five kg silver, a car and two scooters from his house. All the five officers have been booked under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
