Made Agus Wardana was Born in denpasar-Bali in 1971. At the age of 5, his brothers, sisters and parent taught him to dance and to play the gamelan, the traditional Indonesian percussion orchestra. In 1990, he entered at S.T.S.I (School of Art ) in his city of birth and graduated in 1995 with title of the Sarjana Seni, Master of Music. He participated in several festivals around Indonesia and won several prices. In 1994, he received from the hand of the Governor of Bali the price of best performer of the year and best kendang player (leading drum) at the Balinese Traditional art festival. He was then immediately invited to play with the teachers of his school during a tour in Belgium, Germany, India and South-Korea. The year after, he recorded his own pieces with the baleganjur ensemble. In 1996, Prof. Dr. I Made Bandem, Director and Foundator of STSI, sent him for a cultural mission at the Embassy of Indonesian in Belgium. Since 1996, he participated in culture festivals in Holland, France, Austria, Swiss, Luxembourg, Ukraine, UK, Denmark, Germany, Poland and Portugal. The Trunajaya dance describes the emotions of a younger man by love and passion. The dance movements replicate the theme of courtship and love.Truna which means ’single’ and jaya which means ’to win’ immediately offers an understanding of the dance. Satirically, the dancer are younger girls who take on the role of young men. The ladies wear a ’destar’ usually worn by males and an uncommon loin-fabric known as a ’kancut’. The Trunajaya is often danced by a single feminine (here Ni Wayan Yuadani) however generally two, dancing collectively in synchronous movements and to the mesmorotic sounds of the ’Gong Kebyar’, a quick, rhythmic beat which matches in concord to the dance. The dance was created by Wayan Wandres and Gde Manik, from Singaraja, Northern Bali.
