Fatal shooting at Mexico City airport

Three federal police officers are dead after a shootout on Monday - with suspected drug traffickers at Mexico City's international airport.

The Public Security Ministry said the police were moving to detain drug suspects when they were shot.

So far this year, police have seized more than 440 pounds of cocaine at the airport.

Two officers died at the scene - and one died later in hospital.

An investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made.

The murder rate in Mexico City has been relatively low - compared with the rest of Mexico where drug violence has killed more than 50 thousand people in the past five years.

But attacks in the capital have been increasing - with more than 300 gang-related deaths last year.
