Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky's been convicted of all but three of the 48 charges of child sex abuse against him.

He was accused of abusing ten boys over a period of 15 years.

Pennsylvania State's attorney general says it's a victory for justice.

SOUNDBITE: PENNSYLVANIA STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL LINDA KELLY SAYING (English):

"...have worked tirelessly for the last few years to bring these charges to light, to bring this case to court and to see the day that this defendant, a serial child predator who committed horrific acts upon his victims causing lifelong and life-changing consequences for all of them, has been held accountable for his crimes."

Sandusky's defence attorney also spoke after the verdict was delivered.

SOUNDBITE: JOE AMENDOLA, DEFENCE ATTORNEY FOR JERRY SANDUSKY, SAYING (English):

"The Sandusky family is very disappointed, obviously, by the verdict of the jury but we respect their verdict."

Sandusky, seen here in file footage, was indicted by a grand jury last November and the firestorm began.

Legendary head coach Joe Paterno was fired for failing to intervene more forcefully when allegations first came to light years earlier.

University president Graham Spanier was also sacked.

Two other former officials face trial for perjury and other offences.

Sandusky now faces the prospect of a jail term, possibly running into hundreds of years.

Penn State says it's planning to invite his victims to discuss the resolution of claims against the university
