Amateur video from Syria shows protesters said to have been wounded by government forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.

The wounded are carried to safety-- while gunshots are heard in the background.

Another video purports to show Syrian soldiers shooting into the air with machine guns- effectually blocking worshippers from leaving a mosque.

Reuters cannot independently verify the content of either of the videoes.

Despite the presence of United Nations monitors on the ground in Syria, the situation between government forces anti-government rebels, is deteriorating. And fast.

U.N. chief monitor, Robert Mood.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) UNITED NATIONS SUPERVISION MISSION IN SYRIA (UNSMIS) CHIEF, ROBERT MOOD, SAYING:

"There appears to be a lack of willingness to seek the peaceful transition, the peaceful way forward that we are longing for and that the Syrian people are longing for. Instead there is a push towards advancing military positions."

Major powers are now working towards holding a crisis meeting in Geneva at the end of the month in an effort to try to get a tattered peace plan back on track.
