A Bieber fever has hit Mexico City—scores of "Bieber fans" descended on the city’s Zocalo on Monday for the teen sensation's free concert in the sprawling capital's iconic main square.

Carrying placards professing their love for the teen star and chanting his name, most of the "Bieberians" have camped out in the capital since Saturday. They traveled from all over Mexico to catch a glimpse of the popular singer live on stage.

Some fans made a 13-hour trip from the northern state of Tamaulipas for the concert. One fan says the Canadian singer is an inspiration for her.

[Julisa Reyna, Justin Bieber Fan]:
"For me he is an inspiration, he inspires me when I think that I can't do something I think of 'never say never' (Bieber song) because he taught us this, to never give up and keep following your dreams. He makes me happy, without him I don't know where I'd be."

Justin Bieber has become a modern-day pop icon and teen idol. With almost 60 million fans following him on Facebook and Twitter, he has inspired a range of dolls and toys, and even a successful nail polish line called "One Less Lonely Girl".

The Canadian superstar has won young hearts around the world, with his Bieber look and boy-next-door charm.

When asked what she would say to the teen sensation, one fan says:

[Justin Bieber Fan]:
"I love him with all my heart and I love him a lot. I don't know, to give me a hug. I love him a lot."

Constructing barriers and entry points to facilitate movement, authorities are looking to avoid similar scenes of violence that injured dozens of Bieber fans at a recent appearance in Oslo, Norway.

The "Baby" singer is expected to take the stage in front of 200,000 people, singing his biggest hits and premiering songs from his upcoming album "Believe".
