STORY: Mexico City was gripped by Justin Bieber fever on Monday (June 11) as the worldwide singing phenomena jetted into the sprawling metropolis for a massive outdoor concert in its iconic Zocalo square.

The "Baby" singer is due to take the stage in Mexico City for a free outdoor concert for an expected 250,000 people. Performing some of his biggest hits and premiering songs from his upcoming album, Bieber told media his Mexican fans are amongst his most loyal.

"We chose Mexico City to be one of the city's for the "All Around The World" campaign because I feel like my Mexico City fans are one of my biggest fans. I wanted to come here and perform for all the people here, there's supposed to be 250,000 people showing up so it's going to be crazy," he added.

Justin Bieber has become a modern-day pop cultural icon. With over 40 million fans on Facebook and about 19 million of Twitter he is mobbed by screaming girls at every turn. In a recent appearance in Oslo, dozens of Bieber teenage girls were injured as desperate fans scrambled to catch a glimpse of the teen phenomena.

Authorities in Mexico have called in police to help with crowds during Justin Bieber's visit to the country and safeguard security at tonight's outdoor concert.
