Yingluck confirmed as first female Thai PM

Thailand is entering a new political era with a woman - Yingluck Shinawatra - at the head of government.

Shinawatra won elections decisively a month ago and was the only candidate to be nominated when the session to elect a new prime minister was held on Friday.

However, being the sister of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in a coup in 2006, she will need to prove that she is more than just his proxy.
