China's Xi harvests some 'heartland diplomacy'

While on the second leg of his tour of the United States, Xi Jingping, China's vice president and presumptive next leader, revealed some surprising ties to the state of Iowa.

This was Xi's second visit to the state; his first was 27 years ago, when he was part of a Chinese delegation studying farm technology.

It is now hoped that Xi's "heartland diplomacy" will translate into warmer Sino-US ties.

Al Jazeera's John Hendren reports from Muscatine, Iowa.
