Calls for neutral probe into Papua mine deaths

A series of unsolved murders on the private property of one of the world's biggest gold and copper mines has left nine people dead since September.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono blames the independence movement for the killings.

After a human rights organisation released footage of Papuan police making an agreement with mine owners, Freeport, for protection the police chief has admitted his men are their payroll - sparking calls from the largest American labour union for an investigation into what it calls "Freeport's police bribery".
