After the end of Sri Lanka's bloody civil war, the government and the Tamil Tigers it was fighting have come under fire for human rights abuses.

A report by the US state department has accused the Tigers and the government of atrocities.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan government is stepping up up the pace of its release of thousands of ethnic Tamil refugees.
They have been living in squalid conditions in camps in the country's north since the end of the war in May.
