Night Time demonstrations in Aleppo.

Aleppo had been spared the worst of the violence that has turned some cities into battle zones. But on May 3rd activists said security forces and students wielding knives attacked anti-Assad protesters at the university killing at least four people.

Video obtained by Reuters shows students saying they will not be deterred.

"Bashar al-Assad thinks that by closing the University of Aleppo, he can demolish the revolution and the University of Aleppo. He believes that people protesting at Aleppo and the university are not from Aleppo. But this has proved the opposite. We are spread all over Aleppo. We are protesting all over Aleppo. Aleppo has had several protests, after the raid by a pro-Assad group, they have hit a record high . This has shown that the students of the City University of Aleppo will not give up after violence."

Another student describes what happened on May 3rd.

"When the pro-Assad forces entered the campus and the dormitories, they started arresting men and women. They asked us to evacuate the university. They made us leave. They started hitting us and even arrested some of us. It did not matter to them. We saw the blood of martyrs in front of our eyes."

On Friday Syrian security forces said they foiled an attempted suicide car in Aleppo, a a day after two bombs in the capital Damascus killed at least 55 people.
