Twin car bombs kill dozens in Damascus

Two car bombs exploded minutes apart in nearby neighbourhoods of Damascus, killing at least 27 people and wounding nearly 100 more, according to state media.

The blasts targeted buildings belonging to the customs police and air force intelligence. The latter is located in Al Qassaa, a predominantly Christian neighbourhood, and opposition activists said the government may have planned the bombing to provoke the Christians against the uprising.

Residents told Syrian state television that they blamed the Saudis, Qataris and Americans for supporting terrorism in their country.

Al Jazeera's Nisreen El-Shamayleh reports.
