After a summer of fighting, an uneasy peace appears to have been reached in Georgia. But this is no return to the pre-war situation Russian troops will remain in the breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and the Kremlin refuses to drop its recognition of the sovereignty of these two disputed regions.
Sir David is joined by Donald MacLaren, the former UK ambassador to Georgia, to discuss what went wrong in South Ossetia and the effect of this conflict on future international relations.

On September 10, the Large Hadron Collider, the world's largest particle collider, was switched on. This enormous experiment will recreate the conditions moments after the Big Bang. Scientists hope that it will provide answers to some of the most fundamental questions in physics.

Sir David talks to Professor John Ellis, one of the leading scientists from CERN, the laboratory where this experiment is taking place. He explains how the collider works and why this experiment is so important.
