Heidi Klum lights up New York

STORY: Heidi Klum is using her supermodel powers to help raise awareness for the fight against blood cancer.

The model has teamed up with fragrance company Coty and DKMS, the world's largest bone marrow donor center, to light New York's Empire State Building in red and white.

At the lighting ceremony Klum said she loves New York.

"I am especially excited that I get to light the Empire State Building in red in honor of DKMS. And I'm very, very proud that I can do that today. Thank you very much," she said.

Since 2006 Coty has been working with DKMS by using its strong celebrity relationships to help bring attention to the cause. The partnership dubbed, Coty-DKMS Linked Against Blood Cancer, has helped recruit thousands of bone marrow donors around the world.

Manhattan's Empire State Building is consider the "World's Most Famous Office Building" and stands 1,454 feet.

The Empire State Building will be lit red and white from sunset on April 26th until 2 a.m. EDT (0600 GMT) on April 27th.
