Supply ship blasts off for space station

The unmanned ISS Progress 47 cargo craft begins a two-day journey to the International Space Station.

The Russian cargo ship launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 8:50 a.m. EDT (1250 GMT).

It is scheduled to automatically dock to the Pirs docking compartment on the ISS Sunday at 10:40 a.m. (1440GMT).

Progress 47 is carrying food, fuel and supplies for the six crew members aboard the ISS, and will replace the trash-filled Progress 46 cargo craft which undocked from the station on Thursday.

Progress 47 will be undocked for a destructive re-entry into Earth's atmosphere in late July.
