France leads fight on illegal immigration - 7 July 2008

On Monday, the European Union unanimously agreed sweeping new French-drafted guidelines for controlling immigration, and are on track to sign the pact in October. It is thought that there are around six million illegal immigrants on the continent and Nicolas Sarkozy's government has said it wants action as soon as possible. But there is criticism that the plans would create a so-called "Fortress Europe". Estelle Yousouffa reports from Paris.
