Funeral for slain Lebanese cameraman

Hundreds of mourners gather in southern Lebanon for the funeral of Lebanese cameraman Ali Shaaban.

Shaaban was shot dead by Syrian soldiers near the Lebanon-Syria border on Monday whilst working for Lebanese television channel Al-Jadeed.

The killing has shocked friends, colleagues and relatives but it has also angered the prime minister who will demand Syria investigate.

One of Shaaban's colleagues said they were shot at despite following the soldiers instructions.

''Yesterday we were on the Lebanese side of the border filming the Syrian side which could be seen with the naked eye and there were no unusual circumstances in the area. We were told to go back by the Syrian soldiers after we greeted them, we drove immediately and as we were going back they opened fire on us from three sides of the border."

Syrian state television said the shooting occurred at the same time as guards at a nearby border post came under attack.

It was one of two incidents on Monday showing the conflict could spill over into neighbouring countries - 5 people were wounded by Syrian bullets on the Syria-Turkey border.
