Above all, this short film is a fun, feelgood film. To be consumed like candy. It is a tribute to the cultural mix that I'm made of and that feeds me, from film noir movies of the 60s and 70s (both French and American), to video games, the digital world, and cowboy movies, with inspiration from Quentin Tarantino, the Farrelly Brothers, Michel Audiard's dialogues, Brian De Palma, comics, mangas, clips and much more …
The title, "RING A DING DING!" was inspired by a Frank Sinatra song (another reference to film noir). It is also a pun that sums up the movie very well.
RING is the diamond ring, the cellphone ring, the clash between characters on this night forest road as if they're in a boxing ring.
DING is the obstacles they run into, the unexpected events.
Together they make an expression of joy, surprise and enthusiasm, which is what I wanted to do with this movie.
I tried to make the movie a sharing experience, focussing on the generosity of cinema as a medium. I wanted to give back what the cinema has given me. I hope the movie succeeds in doing this.
