A neuroma is commonly referred to a pinched nerve in the foot. The nerve is not technically 'pinched', but is rather irritated through mechanical pressure on its outer covering, which then thickens and irritates the sensitive nerve fibers below. The nerve in question runs under and in between one of the long bones of the foot, and can get irritated in the ball of the foot just prior to its splitting off into two adjacent toes.
