‘Le Prophète’ est considéré comme le chef-d’œuvre de Khalil Gibran.
Il a quinze ans alors qu’il en rédige la première version en arabe
qu’il va remanier et amplifier. C’est après la troisième version en arabe
qu’il va réécrire le texte en anglais, texte qu’il va encore retravailler
quatre fois avant de le confier à l’impression.
« Je voulais être tout à fait sûr
que chaque mot fût le meilleur que j’eusse à offrir ».
