Prince Harry visited Rio de Janeiro's iconic Sugar Loaf mountain on Friday (March 09) to launch a campaign called "GREAT" that promotes the United Kingdom and boosts tourism.

He arrived earlier on Friday for a three-day trip through Rio and Sao Paulo after completing a tour of Belize, the Bahamas and Jamaica.

The GREAT event was billed as an opportunity to showcase the benefits of the UK as a place to visit, to study and to do business.

Prince Harry was accompanied by Rio's Mayor, Eduardo Paes, and said the UK is an important trading partner for Brazil.

"In education, innovation, technology, fashion and even in shopping, British and Brazilians are forging bonds that will stand the test of time and take us far together into the twenty first century," he said.

Guests at the event included representatives from government, fashion, education and the media among others.

During his stay in Rio, Prince Harry is expected to visit a favela or slum.

Prince Harry's trip is meant to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
