People have invested in collectibles like classic cars and fine art for years. But now they are investing in scotch whiskey.

Demand for scotch is especially high in Asia. A Chinese man in Singapore paid $250,000 SGD for a rare bottle last September.

Experts say scotch is a good investment because it is produced in relatively small quantities, unlike wine.

According to whiskey valuers, the spirit may even be a better bet than gold.

Perhaps countries should start paying off their debts in whiskey?

If it doesn't dig them out of crisis, at least they can drink away their sorrows.
